Explosive
Demolition
In
comparison to conventional "reverse construction" methods,
the use of advanced methods for controlled blasting of large structures
often has significant advantages in terms of improved safety, increased
speed and cost savings for the project.
With these methods, large structures are blasted onto the ground where
the structural elements are sectioned by mechanical methods and removed.
We have used precision explosive methods extensively in South Africa
and have in-depth expertise in this area. One of our sister companies
has developed, and holds international patents for a range of specialised
shaped charges for controlled explosive demolition of large structures.
Our Managing Director, Joe Brinkmann, has published 40 technical papers
on explosives, blasting and demolition and has served as the South
African representative on international committees on explosive engineering.
Our safe use of controlled and innovative explosive methods for difficult
and technically demanding projects has set an enviable standard in
engineered explosive demolition.
Mechanical
Demolition
The intricacy
of the demolition process is determined by the size and complexity
of each project. For the times when explosive demolition is not appropriate,
mechanical methods are applied. Small scale demolition projects involving
low rise structures can be carried out using ordinary methods, machinery
and equipment. Larger structures and complex projects require more
extensive planning as well as specialised procedures, equipment and
machinery.
When valued assets are present at the demolition site, it is essential
to recover these items in order to lessen the cost of demolition to
the client. This often involves the careful dismantling of plant and
equipment to recover the assets for re-use by the client. Alternatively,
Jet Demolition will purchase the entire plant and it's equipment and
carry out a turnkey project involving purchase and removal of the
plant and equipment and demolition of the site, which leaves the client
with a rehabilitated site.
At present our fleet of major demolition equipment comprises 18 items
of plant. We have made substantial investments in modern excavators
equipped with a full range of demolition attachments, TLBs, front
end loaders, telescopic handlers, tippers and other machinery that
enable us to carry out projects of any scale.
